JOURNAL #5

Obviously, Vancouver is a foreign city for me, which is in a English spoken country-Canada.For one thing, I'm almost steeped in a atmosphere with English.(there are many Chinese in Vancouver so that I mostly hear Chinese) I gain improvement of my listening English, because I consecrate to listen to my teachers' instruction in classes. While in China, if I want to progress my listening English, I will listen to the tapes or watch English TV programme which is not a efficiency way, because I didn't in a English circumstance to. On other words, I can practice my spoken English in this city. when I go shopping, I frequently choose to speak English to the sells even if I know he or she can speak Chinese. Although I speak slowly, they are still friendly to get my whole sentence. In case I can't catch their words and ask them to repeat the sentence, they usually take pleasure in repetition. In China, I had to practice conversations which are in textbooks to train my linguistics tone. I think it is a silly method to advance my tongue. In berif, I expect I will smoothly communicate with native people.

I am glad that you are able to see some advantages of being here in order to improve your English skills, and that you can compare that to being in your own country.
consecrate - you mean 'concentrate'

I hope that when you go back home that you are able to have some authentic conversations in English, because you are right - it is much better than trying to learn from tapes!
